Students making history: Alex Webb
SENIOR Alexander Webb is a WHHS wrestler, who placed fifth at the Dixie Invitational on Feb. 12.
There were ten competitors in Webb’s weight class, separated into groups of 5. Webb placed third in his group and fifth overall.
“[Black History Month] is an opportunity to focus on and celebrate the history of Black people, and take time to recognize something other than the constant struggle we experience day to day,” Webb said.
But more than his accomplishments in wrestling, Webb strives to be someone the younger, Black community at WHHS feels comfortable talking and looking up to.
“I feel as though the most stifling part about being Black at a majority white school is that there are not a lot of people to look [up] to that look like you, so I hope I can be that person for someone else,” Webb said.
