The Gabonese Football Association announced former FC Cincinnati striker Aaron Boupendza died at 28 following a fall from the 11th floor of his apartment building in China. He was playing for Zheijang Professional in the Chinese Super League at the time of his death.
Boupendza joined FCC from Al Shabab in the Saudi Pro League in June 2023 as a replacement for departed striker Brenner.
The Gabonese International netted 7 goals in 24 games for the club before his contract was terminated by the league after Boupendza was absent from practice for nearly a month. He was also involved in an altercation in April 2024 which led to him breaking his jaw and being sidelined for a month of play.
Chinese police say that Boupendza was seen arguing with his brother before his death, and foul play is being investigated. FC Cincinnati, as well as the Gabonese FA, have both released statements regarding his death.
