Trent Willhite, Drone Photojournalist

In his second year as a Chatterbox staff member, senior Trent Willhite has enthusiastically taken on his role as a sports writer/photographer and assistant videographer.

Trent is passionate about journalism as well as photography/videography and he hope’s to continue on into college with this passion.

He also is apart of multiple clubs including JEA, Sci-Fi, and environmental club. While occasionally doing volunteer work for students, schools, and churches.

When he is not taking part of those activities, he is usually at a Bengals or FC Cincinnati game. Including researching new ways to create videos for everything.

Even though speed cushions have been added to some roads, pedestrians are still getting hit by speeding cars, such as the two UC students who were hit by them in September. Even if cars aren’t speeding, pedestrians can still get hit, as evidenced by the eight-year-old boy who died after being hit by a car, which the police don’t believe was speeding, in Bond Hill.

The WHHS’ student handbook has been updated several times over the last few school years. Assistant principal, Ashley Morgan helped put together this year’s revised copy with school administrators and counselors. “[The new version] is a little bit cleaner, and just a little bit more to the point,” Morgan said.

The return to in-person learning welcomed over 2,800 students and over 100 faculty members back onto our campus. The halls became crowded again, and courses returned to normal, the only difference being mask wearing.

Students gather in the courtyard outside the cafeteria, many of them with caffeinated beverages, a place that is light during the spring but dark during much of the school year. Over the next several years as WHHS transitions to a later school start time, many proponents of the change hope it will help students sleep more and not commute to school in the dark, preventing accidents.

On March 14, 2018, WHHS students walked out of class during third bell as a part of the National School Walkout. Students gave speeches, registered others to vote, and held a moment of silence for the 17 people killed one month earlier at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

SENIOR Daniel Perrea started playing music when he was just four years old, but he didn’t start composing until his freshman year at WHHS. “I got an iPad and a notation program and just wrote down ideas I had. Since then, I’ve been learning more and more,” Perrea said. He has produced music for several WHHS theater performances, including Cherry Orchard, Julius Caesar and She Kills Monsters.
