Anushka Goel, Managing Editor of Visual Elements

In her second year as a Walnut Student Media publications staff member, Anushka Goel is thrilled to work as the Managing Editor of Visual Elements. Goel hopes to create fun, unique designs while becoming more comfortable with the design process.

In her first year in the class, Goel was the Section Editor of Fine Arts and enjoyed learning more about journalistic writing.

Outside of journalism, Goel enjoys swimming, hanging out with friends and reading.

Goel is also involved in HOSA medical club, Speech & Debate and Books for Kids. She hopes to pursue a career in the medical field.

Nearly every composer has their own meticulous process they use to create a composition, and Micah Ballard is no exception. "I actually have a whole 40-page document write-up that I’ve made over the years of everything I do when I compose," Ballard said. "It’s just all my inspirations, the things I like to do with melody, how I like to develop my harmony, and there’s diagrams."

One way WHIP supports the music departments is by providing funding for musicians to play for students. In December, two famous classical musicians, siblings Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Isata Kanneh-Mason performed in the WHHS Auditorium. “I came to the cellist performance that was at the beginning of December, before finals,” Wesley said. “That was incredible. He’s an internationally known cellist, and that’s another thing that the money we raise goes towards.”

As a part of her graphic design major, Aubrey Lauer makes companies’ products more visually appealing and fit for marketing in a process called packaging, one of her favorite parts of graphic design. “I think later in my career, once I get established, working under other people and under bigger creative directors and designers, I would like to do more freelance stuff and maybe start my own studio or collaborate with some other people,” Lauer said.

Team members Cole Reed, ‘25, and David Phalen, ‘25, hop out of the pool after their performance in the regatta. They were one of the first teams in the pool, but struggled to cross. “Cole and I were in the boat, and we were sitting too close to the middle, so it folded in on itself; I think that was one of the big issues,” Phalen said.

In preparation for their performance, members of the jazz ensemble run through their music, polishing every last detail. This group focuses more on perfecting the jazz style and less on learning how to play the instruments. “It is a higher-level band class at Walnut that specializes in playing jazz and other subcategories of jazz,” Milo Althoff, ‘27, said.
