To be or not to be a thespian
October 20, 2022
The thespian society has been benefiting actors and recognizing their achievements for nearly a century, dating back to 1929.
The thespian society is an honor society for students to talk about theater, discuss ideas and plan outreach events to make theater accessible to everyone.
“People can vent as actors and talk about the technical side of theater, or directors can come together and share ideas on the benefits of high school theater,” said Diana Hutchinson, SENIOR, president of Thespian society.
Hutchinson has been a part of the theater community of WHHS, since first coming to WHHS.
“I’ve been in theater since seventh grade,” Hutchinson said. “ I’d say I’ve done 15 [productions].”
Hutchinson, while still being very involved in the theater program at WHHS, has also taken on many leadership roles.
“I am actually directing one of the one acts this year,” Hutchinson said. “I’m also choreographing Carry, which is the high school play. I will also be the production stage manager of our junior high musical 42nd Street.”
The Thespian society does a lot of outreach, but they also have many other events that they are involved in. Friendsgiving is one of their upcoming events.
“We have a Friendsgiving bake sale coming up, but then we just have our lovely season(Theater season) with the opening of Macbeth in November and then the one-act festival in December,” Hutchinson said.
The thespian Society has “open days” where anyone can come to a meeting. More information on Macbeth and the one-act festival will be on the WHHS theater website.
“If you haven’t experienced [theater], or if you just want to try out theater, we’re happy to have you guys,” Hutchinson said.
