Many students, staff, and community members attended the Cincinnati Public School Board of Education meeting on Feb. 5, to show their opposition towards the proposition to merge four local schools.
The merger was proposed because of the $100 million deficit the district expects to face next year.
The district said it would save $2.36 million by consolidating the schools.
However, many of the people who spoke at the board meeting were worried about how students’ well-being would be affected by the change in location and environment, according to WCPO 9 News.
Parents and staff were also confused about how it would save the district money and believed that budget cuts should be made somewhere else.
For example, by changing the location of the schools, many students would have to take buses which would increase the district’s transportation cost.
