Welcome back Walnut!
My name is Kaylee Robbins, and I am thrilled to be your Editor-in-Chief for the 2023-2024 school year. I have been waiting for this moment since I was 12 years old, and after five years of being on staff, I am ready to take on the job.
I’ve found solace in The Chatterbox since my very first day at WHHS, and I hope to make a newspaper that can provide the same for all of you. We are one of the only activities at WHHS that is not only a club, but a class, a potential career path and a family.
I have learned a lot from my past mentors, including but not limited to, Hajra Munir, The Chatterbox’s last Editor-in-Chief, and one of my closest friends. I am excited to pass on all that I’ve learned to the WHHS community.
I hope to encourage student readership and writing. The Chatterbox accepts all voices, whether you’re in the club, the class or just walking down the halls and decide, “Hey, I want everyone to know my opinion on this issue.”
We are that forum for each and every student. No one can write about student stories and student problems quite like a student. It is our First Amendment right that we have freedom of speech, but that means nothing if we don’t use it.
Before I joined The Chatterbox, I truly believed I was just some Effie whose voice didn’t matter, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I started writing for Sports in seventh grade and from there, I went nuts for Peanuts as its Section Editor my eighth grade year. After that, I was a Managing Editor during my freshman and sophomore years before taking on the role of Deputy Editor-in-Chief last year.
All of this experience has made it clear to me how much work is put into this paper.
The important thing to remember is that this paper doesn’t just magically appear.
The Chatterbox, which consistently ranks top in the state, would be nothing without its student writers.
WHHS is a diverse school with a multitude of student backgrounds.
As Editor-in-Chief, I am calling all students to come forth, write something meaningful and have their stories heard.
