On Oct. 31, millions of Hindus and South Asians worldwide celebrated the Hindu light festival known as Diwali.
Also known as Deepavali, Diwali is one of India’s most celebrated festivals. The tradition dates back more than 2,500 years.
Diwali celebrates the symbolism of light over darkness in Hindu and other South Asian religions.
The festival, typically celebrated over five days, shifts each year as it follows the lunar calendar. This year, it coincided with Halloween.
