At approximately 8:00 a.m. on April 3, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the island of Taiwan, with an epicenter near the city of Hualien.
Leaving nine deaths and over 1,000 injuries in its wake, it was the most powerful earthquake to hit Taiwan in 25 years.
The earthquake was powerful enough to cause the collapse of several high-rise buildings in Hualien and multiple smaller buildings in Taipei. The physical damage also included a series of landslides along Taiwan’s major roadways, causing delays for first responders.
Emergency crews are currently working to locate missing people and free those believed to be trapped underneath buildings. For more information, visit BBC.
