Over the course of Brooklyn Wineberg’s, ‘27,’ three years running track for WHHS, she has set personal record after record for herself.
Track runs in her family; her mother is a gold-medal Olympian and her father is a track coach at the University of Cincinnati. Contrary to belief, she began track with no outside pressure from her parents.
“My parents encouraged me to try it [track], but it was never something I had to do,” Wineberg said.
While for some, having parents involved in the same sport may have a negative outcome, Wineberg has never experienced this.
“My mom doesn’t put pressure on me,” Wineberg said. “She said it was up to me and my decision to run.”
Wineberg has noticed that there is a definite difference between indoor and outdoor track.
“Normally, during outdoor track season, I’m not challenged, but indoor [track] is much more competitive,” Wineberg said.
Wineberg’s ideally like to run in a calm and peaceful environment. When racing, Wineberg has a calming mantra that she uses to remind herself not to worry.
“The race will only be less than a minute of my life,” Wineberg said.
While Wineberg is unsure of her future in track, right now she is trying to stay focused on the present.
“I don’t know if I’ll run on the higher level but I am happy with how I’m doing now,” Wineberg said.
