On March 21, CPS decided to close its schools in observance of the solar eclipse on April 8 because of transportation safety concerns for students walking and driving home.
Teachers, however, will report to school as usual for professional development, following the cold weather day procedure.
A partial solar eclipse will begin around 1:54 p.m., and it will reach totality at approximately 3:09 p.m. During totality, the moon will completely cover the sun, making the sky dark and causing temperatures to drop.
According to WLWT5, Avon Lake, located in Lorain County, will experience the longest duration of the total eclipse in Ohio. An eclipse of this totality in Cincinnati will not occur again until 2099.
