After three-and-a-half years, Ariana Grande released her seventh studio album “Eternal Sunshine” on March 13.
Throughout the 13 tracks, including hit singles “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love),” Grande demonstrates a new level of sophistication with sonically cohesive beats and lyrics that delve deep into her emotions.
She draws titular inspiration from the 2004 sci-fi romantic drama “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” which follows two former lovers who attempt to erase each other from their memories.
Themes of love and memory are shown through the breakup songs, rumored to be about Grande’s ex-husband Dalton Gomez, as well as through her hopeful, romantic songs rumored to be about her current boyfriend Ethan Slater.
Max Martin, who has also worked on tracks for Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys and Taylor Swift, produced 11 of the tracks. Grande’s “slightly deluxe” version of the album also includes artists Troye Sivan and Mariah Carey.
The closing track “Ordinary Things” includes a voice note from Grande’s grandmother, who offers relationship advice to round out the sweet, smooth ballad.
