For the first time in 50 years, an American spacecraft has landed on the moon.
On Feb 22, the Odysseus lander, built by the private company Intuitive Machines, landed on the moon after being launched from a SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket.
However, according to NBC, the lander has been “pitched over” after landing near a crater.
Though the device is on its side and has limited flight controls, the Odysseus is still functioning and has sent photos back, operating on its solar-based energy source.
As the device remains on the south pole of the moon, the success of the mission furthers the progress of space exploration by private companies.
