On Feb. 6, five US Marines went missing after their helicopter crashed in the snowy mountains of California.
The helicopter, a CH-53E Super Stallion, was found a day later, an hour’s drive away from San Diego.
In a statement on the morning of Feb. 8, Maj. Gen. Michael J. Borgschulte, commander of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, confirmed the death of the crew, saying, “It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I share the loss of five outstanding Marines from 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and the ’Flying Tigers,'” according to AP News.
