In her first year as a Remembrancer staff member, Nyla Barnes has excitedly taken on the role as the Section Editor of Portrait and Group Index!

Barnes takes a new step into journalism in hopes of building new connections with people, learning photography skills and further advancing her leadership skills.

Barnes also represents the Class of 2026 on the Student Council, is a member of the Student Ambassador, the Black Culture Club and enjoys supporting her friends at various sporting events. 

Barnes hopes to focus on medicine to get her doctor degree in order to be an optometrist or a pediatrician while going to a HBCU of her choice for her undergraduate degree. She envisions herself doing well in the medical field and hopes she can open her own practice to further help out her community. 

Outside of school, Barnes enjoys spending her free time writing while listening to music, and occasionally finds herself looking up new recipes to try and cook or bake for her family.
