8 easy tips and tricks on how to add sustainability to your life
Dear Editor,
I’m writing to spotlight the sustainability club which inspires and guides people to live more eco-friendly lives and learn how to incorporate sustainability in their community.
To start off, here are some easy tips and tricks that you can add into your life.
- Become more conscious of what you buy. Ask yourself if you really need/want the product and if the answer is yes consider buying it gently used or look for minimal packaging and shipping.
- Try to cut down on your driving or carpool as often as possible
- Use reusable bags when shopping and save your plastic grocery bags for a second use
- Invest in a reusable water bottle!
- Shop local
- Reduce the amount of single-use plastic that you use. Whether it’s not getting a plastic straw to use at a restaurant or opting out on that plastic water bottle, anything helps!
- Recycle!!! Become more conscious of what you are about to throw away and ask yourself if it can be recycled instead.
Here is a list of things that can be recycled in Cincinnati:
- Plastic bottles and jugs (#1 and #2)
- Plastic tubs (#5) and cups
- Glass jars and bottles
- Aluminum cans and cups
- Cartons
- Empty aerosol cans with lids and tips removed
- Paperboard (cereal boxes, etc.)
- Paper cups
- Cardboard (broken down if it’s a large piece)
- A variety of paper products, including office paper, newspapers, magazines, junk mail and envelopes (with or without windows), telephone books and paper grocery bags
If you don’t know whether something is recyclable or not do a quick search on Google or go to https://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/recycling/recyclable-items/ to learn more.
- Participate in the sustainability club’s special recycling drives and join our club for monthly informational meetings on environmentally friendly organizations around Cincinnati plus more information on how you can help our community.
