Welcome back, Eagles! My name is Fiona Kelley, ‘28, and I am thrilled to take on the role of Opinions Section Editor for the 2025-2026 school year.
The opinions section is a unique space in The Chatterbox, serving as a platform for writers to share their thoughts and critiques on anything and everything occurring in the world around them.
However, this privilege is not just reserved for staff members of The Chatterbox; it also includes you guys.
One way you can contribute is by writing a letter to the editor, an article sent to a newspaper publication by a reader. These letters enable you to express your opinions or concerns on a wide range of subjects.
If you feel strongly about a topic and want to reach an audience larger than your circle of friends, this might be the perfect opportunity for you.
These letters are rarely longer than 300 words, and are a great way to add your voice to The Chatterbox.

I can’t wait to see this page come to life, and I’m even more excited to introduce my column: From, Fiona.
When I first found out I was going to be editor for opinions, I knew I wanted to create a column. I’ve always admired how past opinion writers have used their columns to share honest, personal stories, and I hope to do the same.
To find my idea, I turned to past staff members who had a column, hoping something could inspire me. I struggled for a while because every idea I came up with was something that staff members had done in the past.
Then I realized that they all had one thing in common — perspective.
I found that in each column I was drawn to, they shared their stories and personal experiences in the hope that their readers could connect with them on some level.
While they wrote about similar topics, their unique viewpoints made each piece different. I hope to bring this same sense of connection to my own column.
Just like others before me, I’ll be observing more than ever this year.
Don’t worry, I won’t just stare at you in the hallway, waiting for you to do one amazing (or embarrassing) thing that I can write about.
Instead, I’m letting stories come to me. My goal is to be vulnerable, open and honest — not just for myself, but for all of us, readers.
