The Air Force’s newest fighter jet, the F-47 was just announced to be given to The Boeing Company. This jet is set to replace its rival Lockheed Martin’s F-22 “raptor” and the F-35 “lightning.”
According to Business Insider, the F-47 is a nod to the 47th President, the Air Force’s founding year and the Air Force’s P-47 which was an WWII generation fighter.
According to AP News, this jet is set to be the “quarterback” among a fleet of drones to “penetrate the air defenses of China.” The exact cost of this new plan is unknown.
The Wall Street Journal estimated the cost of the research, development and acquisition costs to be around 50 billion dollars.
