On April 1, three special elections are set to take place in Wisconsin and Florida, with seats up for grabs in Florida’s 1st and 6th congressional districts as well as a state Supreme Court seat in Wisconsin.
While the Florida congressional races are expected to remain safely in the hands of Republicans, the race for the vacant seat on the Wisconsin supreme court is expected to be highly competitive, with donations from various advocacy groups making it the most expensive judicial race in the country.
The races have drawn national attention due to their ability to serve as bellwethers in regards to the job of the Trump administration thus far. The special elections for the two vacant house seats in Florida are taking on greater meaning due to the slim majority held by house Republicans, meaning that an upset in either one of the two races could flip the balance of power in Congress.
