On March 29, 19-year-old Alysa Liu captured the women’s figure skating world championship title, becoming the first American woman to achieve this since Kimmie Meissner in 2006.
Liu’s victory at the championship, held in Boston, was marked by a program set to a rendition of “MacArthur Park Suite” by Donna Summer. She finished with a score of 222.97, almost five full points ahead of Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto, who took second place.
Liu previously made history at 13, when she became the youngest person to win an individual title at the United States figure skating championships.
