On Feb. 20, the Senate confirmed Kash Patel as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The vote was split 51-49, with Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski siding with all 47 Democrats in opposition.
Patel has previous experience in Washington, working on both Capitol Hill and in the first administration of President Donald Trump. Despite this experience, Patel faced significant scrutiny during the confirmation process, drawing questions over his staunch loyalty to President Trump and how it might affect the bureau’s management.
Regardless, supporters of Patel say that he will bring much-needed transparency to the bureau.
