On Monday, Jan. 20, the presidential inauguration took place, in which President Donald J. Trump was sworn into office for the second time. This makes him the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms over the course of eight years – the first was former president Grover Cleveland, who served as the 22nd and 24th president of the United States in the late 1800s.
Due to extreme temperatures, Trump requested that the inauguration occur inside the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C., rather than outside on the Capitol lawn. This decision made the event the first time a presidential inauguration took place indoors since the second inauguration of Ronald Reagan in 1985 when temperatures reached a low of 7°.
Moments after being sworn into office, President Trump quickly went to work to fulfill his promise of using his presidency to launch what he hopes will be a “golden age” for America. This move included the immediate signing of nearly 100 executive orders; notable actions included halting the ban of TikTok, the withdrawing of the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement and pardoning 1,500 Jan. 6 defendants.
