Les Misérables takes to the stage at the Aronoff Center from Jan. 7-19. This musical set in 19th-century France showcases the struggles of the common people to stop slavery in France up until the June Rebellion of 1832.
Les Misérables, commonly known as Les Mis, is a musical based on the 1862 novel of the same name written by Victor Hugo. This musical adaptation was written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg and had its first show in France in 1980.
After its debut, the show only gained popularity once an English version was made in 1985 and finally made it to Broadway in 1987. Since then, it has been seen by over 130 million people in 53 countries, 438 cities and 22 languages.
