President-elect Donald Trump’s allies in Congress recently introduced a bill into Congress dubbed ‘Make Greenland Great Again.’ The bill will allow the United States to pursue the purchase of Greenland and call for the use of persuasion through economic and military measures if a buyout is not an option.
Despite Trump’s push to buy the territory, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede released a statement stating that the country is not for sale and the decision will be in the hands of Greenland’s residents. Greenland was a Danish colony for nearly 180 years until it became a province in 1953.
If the bill gets passed, Trump will be able to further pursue these actions beginning Jan. 20 when he is sworn into office.
