On Oct. 25, a bonobo, a member of the greater apes family, from the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens injured a worker, sending them to the hospital.
While feeding and administering medicine to the natal troop, which is a group of bonobos, one of the bonobos bit through the protecting mesh, injuring the worker’s finger.
No other animals or workers sustained injuries during the event.
The employee underwent a partial amputation. The zoo initially announced that the injury was a complete amputation.
