You’re ten years old. You just got back from a night of trick or treating. It was rainy, cold and you got chased down by a chainsaw bearing clown, but it was all worth it.
You get home with your friends, your plan works perfectly, you successfully hit every house in the neighborhood. You get to settle down and finally begin the candy trading. A perfect Halloween night.
No matter the age, candy remains a staple of Halloween.
For many, candy is the most important part of the holiday. While some adults enjoy trying to give out the best candy possible.
The most handed-out candy on Halloween, according to Instacart, is Reese’s, followed by Peanut M&M’s and regular M&M’s.
By state, the favorite candy for Ohio, according to USA Today was Blow Pops, which, when asked, nobody at WHHS said was their top choice. The next most popular candies are M&M’s and Starburst, both of which weren’t even among the top five at WHHS, according to a survey of 70 students.
However, parents have it down around here. The survey culminated in a tie; with Reese’s and Kit-Kats being chosen as the best candy. Overall, chocolate bars reign supreme, considering the trailing two candies are Almond Joys and Twix’s.
One big surprise was the number of people who liked Almond Joys. Almond Joys are a very polarizing candy, some love them, some hate them.
“When I was a kid, I always gave away my Almond Joys cause they’re too artificial, they don’t really taste like almonds,” Ben Greiner, ’27, said.
According to USA Today, the top three most hated candies are Circus Peanuts, Candy Corn and then Necco Wafers. All three are rarely handed out.
No matter the candy, as long as trick or treaters avoid toothbrushes and fruits, this Halloween shaped out to be a good one.
