As the weather outside gets colder, a faint jingle can be heard just around the corner. On the other hand, it seems as there is so much time left this fall. There are plenty of ways to spend the time before Mariah Carey defrosts in Cincinnati.
Every year, in late September, Kings Island distinguishes itself from any other theme park by opening up for Halloween Haunt, its own Halloween event. If Kings Island wasn’t fun enough for you on its own, during Halloween Haunt they open up haunted mazes and of course, haunted houses on top of their already abundant list of attractions.
Additionally, if you dare to walk around the park late, many people dressed up as clowns and zombies may jump out and try to scare you. However, if you just want to enjoy Kings Island with no screams attached, you can buy a “No Boo” necklace for $16.99, which will stop the amusement park workers from scaring you.
If haunted houses are more your thing, the Dent Schoolhouse in Harrison is one of the biggest and most acclaimed haunted houses in Cincinnati. The building, located about 20 miles from WHHS, formerly housed a CPS school, which closed in 1949, and is said to be haunted by a janitor that was found liable for 11 missing students of the school.
Although the backstory isn’t backed by much evidence, people still wait hours every year to be frightened by the monsters that inhabit the schoolhouse.
If you hate the horror aspect of this time of year, you can always visit one of the many pumpkin patches around Cincinnati. Many of these pumpkin patches, such as Simmons Farm, have U-pick pumpkin patches where you pick the pumpkins out of the ground yourself.
Some common pumpkin patch activities to try are hay rides, which are good if you would like to see around the farm, and corn mazes, which require strategy and quick thinking to get out of. If you go to a U-pick pumpkin patch, some even offer courses to carve the best pumpkin, a classic Halloween tradition that has been enjoyed for years.
Another classic Halloween activity is to relax, grab some popcorn and put on a Halloween movie.
This could be a classic for the whole family to enjoy like “Hocus Pocus”, which narrates the story of a teenager, his crush and little sister trying to escape three witches that crave youth.
This could also be a horror thriller like “Saw,” narrating the story of two men getting kidnapped by a perverse serial killer named Jigsaw.
No matter where you are, who you are or what you enjoy, one thing everyone can agree on is that there are plenty of fun activities to do during the spooky season.
