On March 12, Trump officially levied a 25% tariff on all imports of steel and aluminum to the United States. This caused a massive uproar, especially among Canada, which accounts for most imports for most international imports to the U.S. 

Canada, under the leadership of newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney, has announced a 25% retaliatory tariff on U.S. goods. The EU, which was also affected, has countered with similar tariffs on certain U.S. goods. 

Trump’s ultimate goal for these tariffs is to shift global trade away from international reliance and toward American producers. However, experts expect the tariffs to damage the U.S. and the global economy.
