  1. China orders its government workers not to use iPhones

China said to its government workers last week that iPhones and other foreign cellphone brands are being banned from use. Government officials are now only allowed to use cell phones made in China. China did this to enhance its cybersecurity and to limit classified information from reaching outside of its borders. According to the Wall Street Journal, this puts a

  1. Trump set to go to trial

Former president Donald Trump is set to go on trial on March 4, 2024, by order of US District Judge Tanya Chutkan. While Trump’s Lawyers wanted the date to be pushed back to April 2026, it was denied according to NBC News. “This is a request for a show trial, not a speedy trial,”  Trump’s lawyer John Lurro, said, “Mr. Trump is not above the law, but he is not below it.”

  1. Mitch McConnell freezes on National TV

Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 81, froze up on national television for about 20-30 seconds after a reporter asked him a question regarding his re-election in 2026. McConnell’s GOP members said he was dizzy and became unresponsive.   1. G20 Summit taking place in India

World leaders came to New Delhi last week for the 2023 G20, a conference of the top 20 economies in the world, according to NBC News.  The G20 was set up in 1999 to discuss policy issues on trade, economy, health, and other world issues. This year the G20 leaders also invited South Africa to join.

  1. India lands a rover on the south side of the moon

India’s Chandrayaan 3 rover landed on the moon, making India the fourth nation in the world to land on the moon and also the first nation to ever land on the south side of the moon. This came days after Russia’s failed attempt to land on the south side of the moon, which is filled with craters and holes making it difficult to land in. “India is now on the Moon,” said Prime Minister Modi. “We have reached where no other country could. It’s a joyous occasion.” 

  1. Messi causes an increase in Apple TV & MLS subscriptions

After Lionel Messi’s debut in the MLS, Apple TV, and MLS subscriptions have gone up by 288,000. “We are excited about our MLS partnership, and we’re thrilled to see Messi suiting up with Inter Miami,” Tim Cook, Apple CEO, said. “It’s clearly in the early days, but we are beating our expectation in terms of subscribers, and the fact that Messi went to Inter Miami helped us out there a bit – and so we’re very excited about it.”

  1. NFL 2023-24 season ready to start

NFL season started recently with jaw-dropping week 1 matches. These games were such upsets with a 20-21 Lions (win) vs Chiefs and a 24-3 Browns (win) vs Bengals. This might set up some exciting upcoming matches between teams on the verge of being Super Bowl contenders.

In his third year as a Chatterbox staff member, Krishna Malhotra is grateful and honored to work as Managing Editor for Operations. Malhotra wants to help the Chatterbox be successful this year as an excellent school newspaper for WHHS. Malhotra also loves to write news stories from a local school level to the International level.  Malhotra was a Chatterbox News Writer last year.  Malhotra is also a member of the HOSA club.  Malhotra hopes to go to college to become an Engineer. In his spare time, Malhotra enjoys playing video games and Basketball.
