2023 Junior Book Award Recipients

The Junior Book Awards are presented to juniors by colleges and Alumni groups that recognize their efforts in a certain field. A handful of  the class of 24’ were given these awards on April 12. Those who receive these awards are given a book representing that field and a certificate. The juniors who have won these awards this year are as follows:

Malachi Mincey and Brianna Vaughn received the Portrait of Walnut Green Awards presented to juniors who care about the environment and are committed to making the earth a better place. 

Louele Endale received the Portrait of Walnut Character Award presented to a junior who exhibits a positive attitude and leadership in the classroom and during school activities.

Ryan Peerless, Sophia Glenn and Ea Perkins received the Portrait of Walnut Fine Arts Awards to academically high achieving juniors who embrace and have excelled in Walnut’s fine arts program. 

Arnav Shukla received the Portrait of Walnut Science Awards presented to a junior who excels and shows leadership in the field of science.

Cylee Leggett received the Portrait of Walnut Athlete Scholar Award presented to a junior who excels in athletics while maintaining high grades. 

Maya Cucchetti received the Portrait of Walnut  Award presented to a junior who is dedicated to academics and sports at Walnut.  

Josephine Debruer received the Aurelian Yale University Honor Society Book Award presented to a junior, based on character, leadership, and everything possible to the highest degree.

Bryce Agyapong received the Brandeis University Book Award presented to an outstanding student who is committed to civic enga

gement, community service, political activism, social justice, or volunteer work.

Finola Stowe received the Brown University Book Award presented to an outstanding junior who best combines overall academic excellence with clarity in written and spoken expression. 

Corinne Adams received the Bryn Mawr College Book Award presented to a junior female who exhibits a true love of learning and intellectual curiosity about the world around her.

Sideny Woolley received the Carnegie Mellon University Junior Book Award presented to an outstanding, well-rounded student who is especially strong in math and science and hopes to major in a STEM field. 

Angelina DiPaola received the Chatham University Rachel Carson Healthy Planet Book Award prese

nted to one deserving student nominated from each high school across the United States and Internationally who embodies the spirit of Rachel Carson in his or her dedication to sustainability and community development.   

Luisa Propst-Zuverza received The Cincinnati Zoo Book Award presented to a junior that shows keen interest in Biology, Natural History and Wildlife Conservation.

Zackery Ball received the Clarkson University Achievement Award presented to a junior that demonstrates strong leadership qualities, positively impacts their school and local community, and has a proven academic record.

Sophia Lin received the Clarkson University Leadership Award presented to a junior who demonstrates strong leadership qualities, positively impacts their school and local community, and has a proven academic record.

Alex Krol received the Harvard University Book Award presented to an outstanding junior who combines excellence in scholarship with achievements in other fields. 

Kristina Klimov received the Johns Hopkins University Junior Book Award presented to the junior in each

participating high school who best exhibits the qualities and characteristics that form the core of the Johns Hopkins ethic: A demonstrated desire for intellectual and moral growth. An uncommon interest in, and capacity for, independent and original scholarship.

Sabine Johns received the Mercantile Library Timothy Crane Book Award presented to a junior student with a high academic average and love of books.  

Carolina Tollefson received the Miami University Book Award presented to a junior with outstanding academics, leadership and community service. 

Logan Symson received the New York University Book Award presented to a junior who excels in academics, leadership and service. 

Ava Kane and Benjamin Krietemeyer received The Ohio State University Book Award presented to two students with an outstanding academic record and involvement in community service.

Juan Cruz-Garcia and Edie Gilliland received the Ohio University Book Award – This award is presented to one outstanding male and one outstanding female student who are active participants in their school and community and excelling in the classroom. 

Revanth Manchineella received the Princeton University Book Award presented to a junior who rates high in the class based on scholarship.

Cristian Grover received the Saint Michael’s Achievement Book Award presented to a top student who exhibits achievement in academics and community service. 

Hannah Ware received the Saint Michael’s Social Justice Book Award presented to a top student who shows a sustained and sincere commitment to community service, issues of peace and justice, and concern for others.

Jorja Wilkerson received the Tulane University Book Award presented to a junior who embodies Tulane’s motto “Not for one’s self, but for one’s own,” and has demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, and public service in their respective communities. 

Selima Aousheva received the University of Chicago Book Award presented to a junior student who embodies the ideals of cultural richness, ethnic diversity, and intellectual pursuits.

Ryan Blessing received the  University of Cincinnati – Honors College Book Award – presented to a junior who exhibits academic excellence, service to the community, and leadership in his/her chosen area. 

Kiyah Gill received the University of Kentucky Book Award presented to a junior demonstrating academic success, leadership, community service, and contribution to diversity.

Jada Turner received the University Of Louisville Yarmuth Book Award  presented to juniors who show academic promise, intellectual curiosity, and are community service oriented. The program is funded by an endowment from the family of Mr. John Yarmuth. It was started to honor his father, Stanley Yarmuth. r

Chloe Lu received University of Notre Dame Book Award presented to a junior who exhibits excellence in academics, leadership and community service.

William Walker received the Williams College Book Award presented to a “top” junior based on qualities of leadership, citizenship, and scholarship.

Alicia Boubrit received the University of Vermont Citizen Scholar Book Award  presented to a junior who demonstrated outstanding dedication to scholarship and an impressive duty to citizenship outside the classroom. 

Sana Sukhija received the Xavier University Service Book Award presented to a high achieving student who embraces the Jesuit philosophy of service to others.
