WHHS hosted Winterfest on Jan.11 before the girl’s varsity basketball game and during the girl’s JV basketball game from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Arcade.

The WHHS Winterfest took place on Jan.11 before the girl’s varsity basketball game and during the girl’s JV basketball game from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Arcade. The event promised games (with prizes), face painting and a bouncy house. It definitely delivered.

Winterfest’s age demographic was children ages 12 and under. At the event, there were kids ranging from preschool to even some WHHS seventh graders.

At the festival, there was a baseball game and a ring toss game. The bouncy house was especially popular with the kids.

But do pregame events increase the attendance of WHHS’s sports games?

“It brings more people in[to] the Walnut community,” Beck Tollefson, ‘25, said.

“I think they [pregame events] can. I think it depends on what’s going on,” Silas Coleman, ‘22, said.

During Winterfest, the girl’s JV basketball team took on West Clermont. West Clermont ended up winning this game with a final score of 19-23.

But that’s not all. After Winterfest, there was a girl’s varsity basketball game. WHHS took on West Clermont, and, unfortunately, West Clermont won with a final score of 45-51.

WHHS Winterfest was a fun event for the whole family and is proof that pregame events increase the attendance of WHHS’s sports games.
