Dive team bonds, competes at Southwest Classic Meet
For the past couple of weeks, the WHHS Dive team has been preparing for the annual Southwest Ohio High School Swimming and Diving Classic meet. The Southwest Classic is a two-day qualifier meet.
WHHS divers started their first day of the meet on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Mason High School. Those who placed high enough on the leaderboard attended the second meet on Sunday, Jan.19.
The divers spent lots of time preparing for this meet. During their two hour practices, they did their dives over and over until they became comfortable with them, then started to perfect them. With the support of each other and their coach, David Wolkoff, they felt confident and excited for their meet. WHHS divers have been to this specific meet in the past and were successful.
Of course, WHHS divers want to score the highest at the meet, but as dive team member, Bela Noble, ‘22, shares the best part of the meets are the support from all of the other teams at the meet. The divers are able to make new friends and network between each other.
Noble said that, “even though we’re all on different teams, we’re all just one big, happy family of divers.”
After this meet, the WHHS Dive team still has lots of work ahead of them.
In the near future, they will begin preparing for sectional, district, and state meets.
