‘From the bench to the floor’

They played three games, winning all three, and then the whole tournament. “It was a team effort! I had a good time,” Alana Tolentino, ‘21, said.

SENIOR Darien Burgan, a four year varsity starter for the WHHS women’s basketball team, beats everyone back down the court for an easy layup. Deter was a part of the success at their tournament over winter break, starting in all three games that they played in.

One common misconception is that rugby and football are the same sport. “It is similar to football but really different because the game doesn’t stop after a tackle, it keeps going,” William Koehn, ‘27, said.

No man runs alone

“Trying to merge the talents with each other and like to actually form, like, a good team, is really hard, especially because we all play on our own outside of the season," Emmet Corby, ‘26, said.

Setting the scene

Womens’ rugby practices Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. at Evanston Playground to prepare for their season. “It's not sponsored by CPS, so we got girls from public schools, homeschools and private schools, and we all come together and we work as a team,” Trinity Charles ‘26, an athlete in the program, said.

Marcus Ray, ‘25, is joined by his parents on SENIOR Night to celebrate his years of hard work and achievements in wrestling.

Ink and identity

One significant moment for the lacrosse program occurred in a game last year. “Beating Springboro in the Regional Semifinals last year was pretty amazing,” Katherine Bowers, coach, said. “That meant we were one of the eight best Division 1 teams in all of Ohio.”
