A California man accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump during the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner pleaded not guilty Monday to multiple federal charges.
Prosecutors say 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen traveled to Washington, D.C., armed with firearms and allegedly rushed a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton while the annual press dinner was taking place. Authorities claim he fired at a Secret Service agent, who survived after being protected by a ballistic vest.
Allen faces charges including attempted assassination of the president, assault on a federal officer, and firearms offenses, which could lead to a life sentence if convicted.
His defense team is also attempting to remove top Justice Department officials from the case over possible conflicts of interest. Allen remains in federal custody as the investigation continues.
