Sports are a significant part of life, and have influenced the world in many ways. Along with being great exercise, they also give players a way to meet new people and create new relationships.
Especially in seventh grade, joining a sports team helps students meet new people in their grade. Players started out not knowing their team, and end up seeing them almost every day.
“[The] new people [are] all good people and I want to befriends and [make] connections with them,” Charlie Miller, ‘31, said.
Along with individual skill, teamwork is a huge part of any team or group. It helps players during games and even when preparing for them.
“The league is more competitive, and we have to use teamwork to work hard,” Lucy Wyrabkiewicz, ‘31, said.
As in any sport, losing is a large part of life. Winning is fun, but if you always win, you don’t have anything to learn from. Teams often have to learn to get over losing in order to move forward and become stronger.
“After a loss, in the locker room, we talk about it, and we bring that energy and intensity to the next game,” Jillian Bantel, ‘31, said.
Clubs and sports are a very important part of WHHS.
“I would recommend anyone to join basketball because you get to make really cool connections and it teaches you to work hard and discipline, and get some wins,” Miller said.
