Long-time American freelance journalist, Shelly Kittleson, was kidnapped in Baghdad, Iraq, on Tuesday.
Two cars were said to be involved in her kidnapping, one that crashed during the chase, after which Kittleson was transferred to the second car.
Alex Plitsas, a CNN national security analyst and Kittleson’s point of contact in Iraq, said the American government did reach out to Kittleson, warning her of a specific threat that was looking to kidnap or kill female journalists.
While it is unknown who exactly kidnapped her, she is said to have been taken by the Iran-backed Iraqi militant group, Hezbollah.
