The 2026 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 men’s basketball Final Four weekend returned to Indianapolis’s Lucas Oil Stadium for the fourth time.
The title game between the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies and the University of Michigan Wolverines tipped off on April 6, at 8:30 p.m.
Early on, the Huskies were in control of the game’s pace, and Michigan was suffering from shooting problems, not making a single three-point shot in the first half. Despite this, the Wolverines led by four points at halftime.
In the second half, Michigan took control of the game. Using their size and speed to drive through the paint and draw fouls, they put the Huskies in major foul trouble. They also played great defense, holding UConn to shoot only 31% from the field.
The Wolverines kept their lead the entire second half and defeated UConn 69-63, winning their program’s first national championship since 1989.
“If you’d told me we would shoot it this poorly and (be) dominated on the glass and still find a way to win, I don’t know if I would have believed you,” Michigan’s head coach, Dusty May, told CBS Sports following the win, “This team just found a way all season.”
