A financial advisor with an underlying story that the streets of New York never knew about, Jeffrey Epstein presented himself as your average billionaire. However, in his private life, he was anything but the sort.
“I’m not a sexual predator, I’m an ‘offender,’” Epstein told the New York Post in 2011.
Discussions surrounding Epstein revolve around him, but also include notable elites who hold significant power in our country today; President Donald Trump is no exception.
“I’ve known Jeff for 15 years, terrific guy; he’s a lot of fun to be with,” Trump told New York Magazine in 2002. “It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”
In November 2025, Congress approved the release of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which was later signed by Trump.
“This bill requires the Department of Justice (DOJ) to publish (in a searchable and downloadable format) all unclassified records, documents, communications and investigative materials in the DOJ’s possession that relate to the investigation and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein,” authored by the Congressional Research Service.
Epstein began his career as a math teacher at The Dalton School, a Manhattan prep school where he was reported to have been inappropriate with younger, female students. Epstein was severely under qualified for this role, starting the job at just 21 while simultaneously working as a financial advisor, managing the most prized possession of the rich and elite: their money.
“He was much more present amongst the students, specifically the girl students, during nonteaching hours … it seemed just, it was kind of inappropriate.” Scott Spizer, a Dalton alumnus, told NPR.
Though these early signs were shown, Epstein was never accused of any misconduct while teaching at The Dalton School. Said to be very charismatic, he was later dismissed for poor performance. He left this job and impressed a Wall Street executive, beginning his new job at Bear Stearns. Epstein swiftly moved up in this company and worked there until 1981.
In August 1981, Epstein started his own consulting firm, Intercontinental Assets Group (IAG). During these times, Epstein was known to have traveled between the United States, the Middle East and Europe. This was uncovered after agents found a passport from a foreign country during their investigation.
Over the decades, he continued to grow his wealth through managing billionaires’ finances. He is known today for claims of running an underground sex trafficking ring. However, these were not his first convictions; in 1996, a Maria Farmer accused Epstein of stealing photographs of her young siblings and then being threatened by him, according to the Washington Post.
There was around 10 years before Epstein’s next run-in with the law. In November 2004, the Palm Beach police received a tip that young women were coming and going from Epstein’s Palm Beach residence, yet no convictions were made.
Claims like this continued. According to The Smoking Gun, a young woman claimed her underage stepdaughter accused Epstein of giving her money for stripping to her underwear and giving Epstein a massage.
The more that came out through police warrants and investigations, the more hints towards this pedophilia behavior. When searching the Epstein residence, police found photos of underage girls, hidden cameras and a young girl’s high school transcript.
After numerous claims were filed, police attempted to charge Epstein with unlawful sex with a minor.
Epstein was indicted on one count of soliciting prostitution, a severely lesser charge than the one proposed. Epstein’s lawyer belittled witnesses on the stand. Palm Beach police leaders were unhappy with this result, and the FBI began investigating.
The case became the high-class, elite-focused case that is known today because one woman, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, filed a lawsuit claiming Epstein and his madam, Ghislane Maxwell, arranged for her to have sex with his notable elite friends, though the lawsuit didn’t name them.
Giuffre accused the now-dismissed Prince Andrew, along with other men, of having sexual intercourse with her while she was underage.
This gave the FBI a new case to investigate Epstein’s questionable sexual behavior with minors. He was then being investigated for sex trafficking, with charges brought to him by officials of New York in 2019.
In the same year, a few months later, Epstein committed suicide in his jail cell. However, this isn’t the end of the case. Police charge Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime partner, with sex crimes as well. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The Epstein case has come back to fruition because of all the mystery surrounding Trump’s alleged relationship to the case.
