The 2026 Division 1 Ohio High School State Swimming Championship meet took place from Feb. 27-28 in Canton, Ohio.
Five WHHS students competed. Quinn Schureck, ‘26, in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly, and PJ Varatta, ‘26, in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle qualfied in solo events. Varatta, Andy Linn, ‘26, Ernie Manders, ‘26, and Isaiah Greenlee, ‘27, also qualified for the Boys 200-yard freestyle relay.
Schureck, who committed to the University of Kentucky earlier this year, started the preliminary session off for the Eagles, qualifying after placing third, giving her a spot in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard breaststroke championship finals on Feb. 28.

The boys’ freestyle relay, led by Greenlee and anchored by Varatta, went into the meet seeded 23rd and finished 15th after preliminary rounds, making it into finals, where they finished 14th.
Finishing behind two fellow seniors and Southeastern Conference (SEC) swim commits, Schureck took home 3rd place in the 100-yard butterfly.
In an exciting race, the last of her high school career, Schureck secured the Division 1 100-yard breaststroke state title, finishing .07 seconds ahead of second place.
“I’m so happy. All the hard work finally paid off,” Schureck said in an interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer. “It’s been my dream, so I’m just super excited.”
