Following the fatal shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis, Minn., Alex Pretti, 37, was also shot and killed by federal agents on Jan. 24.
As a result, Gregory Bovino, senior Border Patrol commander in Minneapolis at the time of the shootings, is set to leave the city. Contrary to internet rumors, Bovino has not been fired.
“Chief Gregory Bovino has NOT been relieved of his duties,” Tricia McLaughlin, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson, said.
White House border czar Tom Homan has hinted at a drawback in Operation Metro Surge, the ICE/federal operation in Minneapolis.
“What I will say is, I will believe it [the drawback] when I see it,” Jacob Frey, Mayor of Minneapolis, said. ”They have talked about drawing down the numbers in terms of federal agents, ICE and Border Patrol in Minneapolis, and that is essential. The reality, however, is that we need Operation Metro Surge to end.”
