Ryan Coolger’s “Sinners” set a new Academy Awards record with 16 nominations for the 98th Oscars, topping the field announced Thursday by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The vampire-themed film’s nominations include “Best Picture” and “Best Director,” surpassing the long-standing high of 14 nods. “One Batter After Another” followed with strong support, earning 13 nominations.
The ceremony, honoring films released in 2025, will be held March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and broadcasted on ABC, with Conan O’Brien returning as host.
The lineup this year showcases a wide mix of genres and includes a new competitive category for casting directors, reflecting continued efforts to broaden representation across the Oscars’ ballot.
