On Sunday, Nov. 30, United States president Donald Trump confirmed that a phone call occurred between him and Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro. This comes after tensions have escalated between the two nations due to U.S. strikes on boats purportedly involved in narcotics trafficking having originated from Venezuela.
The phone call is said to have covered the possibility of Maduro resigning as president, with Trump saying “You can save yourself and those close to you, but you must leave the country now,” according to the English newspaper The Guardian. Maduro allegedly rejected the offer.
In addition to allegedly proposing regime change in Venezuela, the U.S. has continued to step up its campaign of air strikes against boats in the Carribean, with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth coming under scrutiny this week for potentially violating the laws of war with one of these strikes.
