Junior high students regularly spend their study halls playing an assortment of games, including CoolMath games and Minecraft Education Edition.
Founded in 1997, CoolMath Games is a staple of schools across the country. CoolMath Games is a website beloved by students and hated by teachers. Unlike its competitors, Coolmath Games has stayed true to its morals and vows to only choose games that incite learning and fun.
“We seek games that are enriching, not empty; meaningful, not mindless,” the about us page on their website said. “You can’t plow through our games with your brain switched off.”
The Chatterbox asked students what their favorite game was on Coolmath Games among other questions.
“Golf Battle royal, just because golf is the best game,” Phoenix Amos, ‘29, said.
Mini Golf Battle royale is a Multiplayer game where 50 players try to get their ball into the hole in the least amount of time and hits.
Not all students play on Cool Math Games, some opt to download more demanding games onto their computer to play.
“There’s a new game that everyone is downloading called Minecraft Education Edition,” Payan Abdulrahman, ‘30, said.
Minecraft Education Edition is a version of the popular 2011 video game Minecraft. Education in particular is modeled from Minecraft Bedrock Edition. Students simply download the game and sign in with their school credentials and are then allowed onto the game.
Students have found many ways to stay entertained during the school day through games, but their picks are constantly evolving.
