Jeju Airlines flight 2216 crashed on Dec. 29, 2024, leaving 175 passengers and four crew members dead. The crash was due to a malfunction in the landing gear, which caused the plane to overshoot the runway.
The flight was forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine failure while in flight. An investigation by the International Civil Aviation Organization revealed the remains of a duck in the engine; however, investigators do not believe that this was to blame for the fatal crash.
The investigation’s preliminary report, which was released on Monday, Jan. 27, uncovered the black box of the plane. The recording stopped four minutes prior to the crash.
