President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use long-range missiles provided by the United States to perform strikes inside Russia as a part of the ongoing war following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Two days following the approval, Ukrainians launched the missiles, hitting deep inside Russia. They launched six missiles and five were successfully shot down, with the debris of one causing a small fire. There were no casualties.
This marks the first time Ukraine used American weaponry to target sites deep inside Russia in the first 1000 days of the war. Russia has updated their nuclear doctrine in response to the attacks.
