Got cheer?
November 17, 2019
The cheerleading team has always been one of the most successful teams at WHHS. Two years ago, they came in second at Nationals and last year, they came second in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC). This year, they have been putting in a lot of time and work to come out victorious at ECC competition.
They are a relatively young team with seven new varsity cheerleaders and only two returning. Rebuilding is never easy. You have to find the right chemistry that works for your team. But even with a new team, the girls aren’t letting this stop them.
“As a team, we’ve gotten closer. And I believe we can do it. We were one place away last year, so it’s just going to be up to who has the most heart,” Ermony Simmons, ‘21, said. They aren’t going down without a fight and it’s evident. For being a young team, they know what it is going to take in order to win.
The girls aren’t the only ones excited for the upcoming competition, head coach E’Lyse Hill is also prepared. “I expect the team to BRING IT and leave it on the matt at ECC as they all do,”Hill said,“This is the most talented and skilled squad that walnut has ever had, so I’m excited for them to put it all out there.” They have the motivation, they have the talent and they have the heart so people better be ready for them at the ECC competition.
